May starts with the Labor Day holiday, after which we residents of the capital return to work and to plan what to do for Mother’s Day, and yes, despite its commercial nature, we must pamper mom. We should mention this month gets quite hectic with plenty of art exhibits and outdoor activities to harness the nice weather before the Summer rains.
For those seeking something different this season, here are our suggestions on what to do and where to eat in May at CDMX.
Roma Condesa Cultural Corridor
On the May 6-7 weekend, the Roma Condesa Cultural Corridor takes the streets of Mexico City on its 18th edition. Thus, residents of the capital can enjoy activities in public areas, from film projections and theater plays, to dancing and educational activities for children. Some of the highlights include bicycle libraries, an initiative of Cafebrería El Péndulo and Delegación Cuahutemoc, enabling tours through parks, plazas and markets to exchange books in a sort of barter. The interactive Instagram area, where visitors can discover the best stories of Mexican entrepreuners and create their own most entertaining photos, videos, and boomerangs through Instagram Stories. For foodies, we suggest visiting the terrace of Hotel Condesadf, which will host an exclusive from Ensenada, La Guerrerense with a fresh seafood proposal, Bocanegra beer, and a variety of cocktails. You can also visit Local Mil Ochocientos, an area where multiple brands will showcase their talent with the purpose of highlighting products made in Mexico.
Step out of the ordinary this weekend, and participate in Cultural Corridor activities!

Stracciatella Ice Cream Shop
Remember those delicious gelatos you tried on your first trip to Italy? You won’t have to travel to enjoy that delicious ice cream. We invite you to know Stracciatella, a small ice cream shop in Roma Norte that uses recipes from the Italian ice cream masters, merging local products with a few from the Mediterranean. Stracciatella was created with the purpose of promoting the history, tradition and techniques of Italian ice cream. That’s why they serve true Italian gelatos, handcrafted to achieve that unique texture and creaminess. The place offers more than fifteen different flavors, some of the favorites are the traditional stracciatella with chocolate chips, lemon with basil, hazelnut, and Kinder Bueno. Food for Thought by Raúl Ortega Ayala
Eating responds to a need, expressed by hunger, and the desire we define as appetite. In this new exhibit, the artist presents a visceral replica of gastronomically grotesque scenes created when eating becomes detached from the need, as well as the desire for food. In this exhibit, visitors can see works like the “Babel Fat Tower”, made of fat and bones, a replica of the mythical tower painted in 1563, and placed under a set of lamps to turn into a melted puddle. “Melting Pots”, a set of objects collected from 9/11. You can see a photograph of the buffet served at the Windows on the World restaurant in the Twin Towers. In contrast, the artist presents a buffer based on that photograph by using trays from companies that produce items with metal recovered from Ground Zero. You can also see a video of a hectic multitude of tourists with naked torsos throwing tomatoes at each other in the annual tomato battle of Spain, known as Tomatina.
